Many students and parents from the entire nation have been requesting to postpone the NEET and JEE 2020 examinations as the number of cases of COVID-19 is rising in the country. After already postponing the examination to September 13th, there were a lot of petitions that have been filed against the commencement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 2020 during this pandemic period.
The students and parents reached out to the Supreme Court of India to seek some relief but on August 17, 2020, the Supreme Court has rejected the plea for the postponement of NEET 2020. The reason behind not deferring this examination is to not put the students’ career in peril. The further the postponement of the NEET 2020 examination, the longer it takes for the students to accomplish their dream career.
Many politicians like Mamta Banerjee, Sonia Gandhi, etc, have till now also joined this cause. They want the government to listen to the needs of the students of the country. NEET-UG is a national level examination for all the medical aspirants. This year, more than 15 lakh students are going to appear in this examination which can be risky, and conducting the national level examinations such as NEET will put a lot of stress on the students. Thus students from 11 states of India had filed a petition seeking the postponement of JEE and NEET 2020 in the Supreme Court.
On August 17th, Monday, the Supreme Court rejected the plea. This decision was made by the bench of 3 judges headed by Justice Arun Mishra. He quoted “Life has to go on and the court cannot put the career of so many students in jeopardy” by interrupting the decision made by the regulatory body of this examination that is NTA.
Now the political reaction on this movement is that the Congress has attacked the government on this topic, criticizing the government. More politicians have come up with calling this decision injustice.
Only time can say what the future holds but you should keep studying for your examinations. Stay home Stay safe.
