Date: 05-03-2021

Want to know about the course of MBBS in India to those abroad?

Pursuing MBBS is a dream for many, especially for Indians. MBBS is one of the most sought after career options for students in India and internationally too.

Many Indian students wish to study MBBS from a prestigious government medical college or from a private medical college, in case they fail to meet the cut offs.

There are a total of 542 medical colleges in India including the government and private medical colleges both.

MBBS education is exorbitant in Indian private colleges, reason being- there is more demand than supply of total number of seats in medical colleges.

According to a study, in 2017 there were approximately 10.3 lac medical aspirants who appeared for NEET examination for approximately 60,000 MBBS seats in combining  both private and government.

This in turn has opened the doors of MBBS abroad. Thousands of students have chosen to study abroad.

There has been a great increment in the number of students that go abroad everywhere.

The article below talks in detail about MBBS in India and MBBS abroad.

Introduction To MBBS Abroad

The study of medicine or otherwise referred to as MBBS has grown immensely over the years in India.
Today the number of students applying in medical universities abroad has drastically increased than what it used to be a couple of years back.
Why, you ask?
That is because, a very limited number of government seats conjoined with sky-high tuition fees charged by private medical colleges have pushed a lot of Indian students to pursue MBBS abroad.
As per the Medical Council of India, a total of 542 government and private colleges together provide a sum of 79,855 seats to students who have successfully cleared the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
The number of seats offered by MCI is not even 1% of the total number of candidates that register for the exam every year.
In the year 2020 a total of 15 lakh students registered for the NEET-UG.
Private medical colleges with their immoderate tuition fees is the only option left for students who are unable to meet the cut off.
State-of-the-art medical universities coupled with incomparable amenities and world-class faculty make studying MBBS abroad a major success.

Pursuing MBBS out of the country not only provides students with an international exposure, but also a fortuity to practice in a foreign land.

Abroad Or India, Which Is More Valuable To Students?

Studying MBBS abroad is an exceptional choice, especially for Indian students and the reasons are many. Let us look at those below.

1. Entire course duration

The duration of MBBS in Abroad differs from country to country. In few countries, the entire MBBS course duration is 4 years while in others, it is 6 years (including internship). Whereas MBBS in India is a total of 5.2 years along with 1 year of the internship period.

2. Overall cost

Pursuing MBBS abroad costs from around 20 lakhs (including tuition fees, hostel fees, Indian food fees, etc.) However, if you are able to acquire an MBBS seat in a government college in India, then the cost is going to be very less but the cost of doing MBBS in private colleges in India starts from around 75 lacs. All in all, MBBS abroad is quite affordable as compared to MBBS in India. That’s why most Indian students prefer to do their MBBS abroad only.

3. Capitation fees

High-priced capitation charges are taken by private medical colleges in India. But, there’s no such charges taken by medical universities abroad. It is more fruitful to study medicine abroad than in India.
