“Never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” Rahm Emanuel
In a time where living a normal life, one has to be extra cautious. Moving out of the house for any important thing becomes a task to carefully analyze and stay away from other people to avoid risky contacts with any person. It is also a situation where being in a workplace, school, and college with other mates has become unknowingly risky due to Coronavirus disease.
Coronavirus disease is an infectious disease that is mainly transmitted from one person to another through the tiny unseen droplets that are generated when a person coughs or sneezes.
After analyzing the symptoms and effects of the Coronavirus disease, the World Health Organization immediately shared the preventive measures to the public in order to be able to curb the spread of the virus.
Below are few of the steps taken to curb the spread of the COVID-19:
- Regularly and thoroughly wash hands with soap and water or with alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Maintain at least 1-meter distance from the other person.
- Avoid going to crowded places.
- Avoid touching your face (especially your eyes, nose, or mouth).
- Cover your nose and mouth with a face mask.
- As much as possible stay home unless it is required for you to go out.
- If you have a fever, cough, difficulty breathing, immediately contact your doctor or visit a hospital.
To be able to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease, one must follow the above precautionary measures carefully.
In the wake of the Coronavirus Pandemic, it is known that the normal life of the people has been disrupted. It has also impacted the regular functioning of educational institutions around the world. Many schools and universities have been closed since March 2020, and this has forced educational institutions to move their teachings into an online platform. It eventually led to the changes in the regular flow of education to the students.
Though it might seem like a relatively minor change in delivering quality education to the students, the replacement of in-person classes with online classes actually creates a loss of collaborative experiences.
In the field of medicine, there are several things that are being affected by COVID-19 pandemic. The first thing that affects the medical students during this time is the lack of the usual interaction during the lecture classes.
Another way in which students are being affected during this time is the cancellation of seminars, conferences, etc. These conferences and seminars are conducted to build up the student’s professional growth for their medical career. Many medical students have now missed out on several medical practices such as medical research, presentations, seminars, clinical rotations, and other things that helped medical aspirants become successful doctors.
Even during this critical time, programs such as conferences, presentations, and seminars are somehow being managed online. Several conferences and webinars were held to deliver and share the knowledge with the students.
Furthermore, programs such as clinical rotations have been paused for medical students to ensure their safety during this time.
Although it is a necessary activity to educate and welcome a new generation of doctors to help the healthcare center especially during this time of crisis, the increasing number of the COVID-19 cases has forced the educational institutions to hold back their medical courses as it requires clinical training for the students. The challenge during this time is in providing authentic patient experiences to medical students which is part of their medical education.
There is uncertainty regarding how long will this situation last. Before the existence of the Coronavirus disease that causes the pandemic, if a doctor or a physician cames to work while being unwell, it was considered to be professional as they consider their main priority is their patient. However, the situation changes ever since the Coronavirus disease. If physicians come to work when they are being ill, even those who are asymptomatic, it is risky for the physicians and their surroundings as the virus might transmit to others unknowingly.
