Dr. Rakesh Vats New Secretary General Medical Council Of India

Dr. Rakesh Vats, an Indian Administration Service officer from 1986, West Bengal cadre. He has served as a Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Urban Development also worked in addition to the field experience of Revenue administration in the districts and secretariat of the state government, In his early profession, he has worked in radiotherapy department for almost 3 years before he joined the administration services. Vats also took over many initiatives of the Ministry of Health in policy related to the use of drugs, medical devices, and food standards.

The MCI was established in the year 1934. The main objective of the Medical Council of India is to establish uniform standards of higher medical education and recognization of medical colleges in India as well as abroad. 

Functions of Medical Council of India:

  • Maintain uniform standards of higher medical education of UnderGraduate and Postgraduate.
  • Advice for recognition/ de-recognition of medical qualification of medical institutes of both India and Abroad.
  • Permanent/provisional registration of doctors with recognized medical qualifications.
  • Symbiotic relationships with foreign countries in order of mutual recognition of medical qualification.

Dr. Vats has been appointed the new Secretary-General Medical Council of India for 1 Year. He was formerly the Chairman of the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA). Watching over India drug prices.
