Latest Updates on Petitions regarding NEET-UG 2021

Tamil Nadu has been considering eliminating the NEET-UG examination for admissions to medical institutions in Tamil Nadu. Today, the Tamil Nadu official committee has come up with a new law to override NEET and allow admissions to medical universities based on the class 12 marks.

This proposal is made by the Tamil Nadu Health Minister, Ma Subramanian to ensure social justice and protect all vulnerable student communities from being discriminated against admission to the medical institutions for Medical programs. Over the years, the Tamil Nadu Government has been consistently opposing NEET considering the plight of the students who come from a poor background.

Another plea related to NEET-UG is regarding a petition made by students belonging to CBSE private, compartment, and patrachar about their inability to appear for NEET-UG due to the non-declaration of class 12 results. The National Testing Agency (NTA) had announced that the non-declaration of results of the CBSE private, compartment, and patrachar students of class 12 will not hinder the students from appearing for NEET-UG 2021 examination. Students can appear for the examination as scheduled.

Earlier this year, a petition was filed by a minor student urging the Court to direct NTA to amend the minimum age limit for NEET-UG. However, NTA opposed the petition. The minimum age to appear NEET-UG is 17 years as of December 31, 2021.
