MCI Green Signal to add over 500 MBBS seats in Maharashtra with 3 New MBBS Colleges

Recently, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has accepted the proposal and gave a green signal in order to add a few MBBS seats in the state of Maharashtra. About 500 seats will be added to the pool of undergraduate medical courses in Maharashtra. Not only medical seats, but the state is also ready to establish 3 new medical colleges to increase the number of medical seats in the country. 

This clearly means that all aspiring Indian medical students will have more opportunities to secure a medical seat in the country. Out of these 3 new medical colleges, 2 of these colleges will have a total of 300 new MBBS seats and will be recognized as esteemed medical colleges, whereas the third new medical college will be under the complete governance and guidance by a private administration. 

Initially, the total number of medical seats available in Maharashtra in both government and private medical universities was around 6,700, with the addition of these new MBBS seats will increase in the state will make the number go around 8,900. 

If we look upon the data, the increase of MBBS seats in Maharashtra in the last two years has gone up by way of near 30%. Not only this, but the Medical Council of India (MCI) has also accepted and gave the green signal to the proposals for the 3 medical colleges which are supposed to be established in Pune, Sindhudurg, and Nagpur. 

Out of 8,900 MBBS seats in Maharashtra, around 6,700 are going to allow students to seek admission within the centralized admission method, which will be organized, by the DMER and therefore the state CET cells. 

Dr. TP Lahane- Director of the Medical Education and Research (DMER) has confirmed the approval over the establishment of 3 new MBBS colleges after the go-ahead given by the Medical Council of India. He also stated that one of the medical colleges is going to be a part of the central admission process, therefore all the students who are interested in seeking admission in this medical university need to follow all the steps which come under the part of the central admission process.
