NMC issued notice for temporary registration of foreign medical practitioner for Fellowship programs

For foreign citizens or foreign medical practitioners who wish to practice in India, the medical governing body of India has released a notification cum guidelines for all the medical colleges, hospitals, institutes in India, who provide sponsorship to foreign medical practitioners. This notification states that they need to obtain a temporary registration for foreign medical practitioners which will be issued to them for practicing in India. Temporary registration will be provided for a duration of twelve months to the foreign medical practitioner which will be followed by a cooling off period of one year and will be limited to college, institution, medical college sponsoring the programme.

The medical governing body Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) and National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a notice particular to the medical practice in India for the foreign medical practitioners. In lieu of the notice it is to be noted that the institute, hospital or medical college who are inviting foreign nationals for a fellowship program has to adhere to the NMC stated guidelines. A foreign citizen may be allowed to practice fellowship, clinical research, clinical training, and observership for said purpose of enhancing their skill and competence through training or academic courses conducted in India. For this the institute may apply for temporary registration for the foreign citizen on the EMRB portal using the details such as name, nationality, registration certificate of foreign citizen, information related to course content, duration, training facility, teaching and infrastructure facility and details of fees charged by the institute.

At the time of processing the application received for grant of temporary registration the details of fellowship programs being run by the registered hospital, institutes or medical college should be duly uploaded on the official website along with other information like course content, duration, training facilities, teaching, faculty details and infrastructure facilities etc. for the verification purpose that will be done by EMRB (NMC).

In case the institute, medical college or hospital fails to comply there may be delay in processing the application received for temporary registration of fellowship program.
