NMC News: Dr Sandhya Bhullar To Be the New Secretary

National Medical Commission, erstwhile known as the Medical Council of India has been witnessing quite a lot of hustle-bustle since the past few months. The Commission has also been actively working to strengthen the healthcare practices in India. As a step towards it, the NMC previously bought the draft concerning the foreign medical education and the very recently has proposed fee fixation for the medical studies in India. The commission is now experiencing a major change in its leadership.

Dr. Rakesh Kumar Vats, who held the pot of secretary for Medical Council of India, and now National Medical Commision since 2019 has resigned from his position. The former secretary of the NMC, would be replaced by Dr. Sandhya Bhullar , IPS (GJ:2003).

A few days back, Dr. RK Vats had officially resigned as a secretary from the Nation Medical Council. Dr. Vats has been involved with the Medical Council of India since 2010. He was also actively involved in the restructuring of MCI and the formation of the NMC later the same year. His tenure as a secretary was supposed to be ending in 2020, but to the countrys crisis, he had resumed his duties.

Today the Department of Personnel and Training, Government Of India issued a notice accepting his resignation and announcing the name of the new secretary. The notice issued, dated 27-05-2021 has mentioned as:

The Appointment Committee of the cabinet has approved of the following:

  1. Post-facto approval of the acceptance of the resignation of Dr. R.K. Vats from the post of secretaryNational Medical Commision, with effect from 25-05-2021; and
  2. Appointment of Dr. Sandhya Bhullar, IAS (GJ:2003), Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs as secretary, National Medical Commission

Dr. Sandhya Bhullar is a 2003 batch IAS of Gujarat cadre. She has worked as a Director, for the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under the Central Staffing Scheme in the year 2019. In 2020, he was laterally shifted to the Department of Economic Affairs, under the Ministry of Finance. Earlier, this year, she was promoted to be the joint secretary of the very same department.
