NEET for Medical Entrance

Tamil Nadu passed a new bill to exempt NEET for Medical courses Admission

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the common entrance test for admission to Medical Universities in India and Abroad.

Tamil Nadu Government on September 13, 2021, passed a bill for students to take admission to undergraduate courses in medicine based on the marks obtained on class 12 board examinations without NEET. However, this bill will only be implemented effectively from next year.

The Tamil Nadu Government wants that their state students shall be exempted from the centralised exam to ensure social justice and protect all vulnerable students from being discriminated against admission to medical education programs.

The main reason that the Tamil Nadu Government wants to scrap the NEET Examination is that the single-day examination puts a lot of pressure on students due to the increase in competition. There are a lot of students who performed well during their 10+2 examination but failed to clear NEET or did not get their satisfactory score in NEET Exam. Thus the possibility of increasing depression amongst the students.

With the New Bill that is passed, the government is looking forward to bring social justice to all the Medical Aspirants in the Tamil Nadu State.

The Tamil Nadu Government had also proposed to offer 7.5% seats in medical colleges for students from the Government school.
