About University

The Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was established in the year 1834 in the capital city of Ukraine. The University is also known as Shevchenko University. The University ranks at third position after Lviv and the University of Kharkiv in the list of oldest universities in Ukraine.  

Initially, the University was known as Kiev Imperial University of Saint Vladimir, and since then the name has been changed several times.

In the year 2009, the University was accredited with the status of a self-governing (autonomous) body in the department of research at the national higher educational institution, by the combined decision of the Cabinet Ministers of Ukraine.

As per QS World University Rankings (Great Britain), the University was ranked at 421-430 position in the list of Best International Universities in the world in the year 2014-2015.

Accommodation

The University offers safe and comfortable accommodations to all Indian students. There are separate hostel blocks for girls and boys. The rooms are offered on a double or triple sharing basis. All the rooms are equipped with basic amenities that are required for a comfortable stay.

Indian food is available in the students’ mess at reasonable rates.

The university believes in the holistic development of every student and thus conducts various cultural and sports activities to keep students physically fit and active.

All major festivals of the world are celebrated, so that student doesn’t feel homesick.

  • Kyiv is the capital and most populous city of Ukraine, situated in the north-central part of Ukraine on the Dnieper.
  • The city got its name from one of its four legendary founders named as Kyi
  • The city experiences a humid continental climate. June, July, and August are the warmer months whereas December, January and February are the colder months.
  • The primary economic sectors of the city include Electricity, Gas and Water supply, food and beverages manufacturing industries tobacco products, chemicals, mechanical engineering and manufacture of paper and paper products.
  • The city has well-connected local public transportations such as metro (underground), buses and minibuses, trolleybuses, taxis, trams, and funicular.
  • The city is known as the green city with two botanical gardens and various large and small parks.
