West Kazakhstan State Medical University is one of the top universities in Kazakhstan. The university was established in 1957 as a non-profit public higher education institution in the small city of Aktobe. The university is officially recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
West Kazakhstan State Medical University offers courses and programs that lead to recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study. The establishment of the university came into existence when the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR decided to provide medical education in the West and Northwest Kazakhstan. Almagambet Bekishevich Dairov, who was the candidate of medical sciences, the associate professor and doctor of medical sciences, was appointed as the first director of the institute. The opening of this university brought many changes in the western region of Kazakhstan in terms of medical facilities as well as other developments.
The best part in the establishment of this university was many other institutes and universities helped in its organization. Initially the university got the textbooks from the libraries of Leningrad, Sechenov and Perm medical Institutes. The university showed a great success in a very short period in terms of academic results. In the year 1957, a total of seven departments were started in WKSMU.
