MBBS in India vs MBBS ABroad for Indian Students

Choosing a career in medicine is one of the toughest fields to pursue. Admissions for MBBS in India or MBBS Abroad leave medical aspirants in various stressful situations. The supply ratio of qualified doctors in India is comparatively low and it creates a tough competition among the medical aspirants in India. Therefore, in this situation, Studying MBBS Abroad is an emerging option. 

Today, taking admission to study MBBS requires an Indian student to clear NEET. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is the only entrance examination for Indian students seeking to study medicine in India or Abroad. If a student fails to clear NEET, either they would have to take a drop or pursue medicine in universities that allow students to study medicine while preparing for NEET.

Studying MBBS Abroad is more of a choice for many Indian students who failed to attain a seat at the government medical institute in India. The majority of the students prioritise affordability along with the reputation of the medical degree Abroad. 

Few of the common reasons Indian Medical aspirants are often confused when making a choice between studying MBBS Abroad or choosing India as their medical study destination.

Studying MBBS in India can cost the students more than pursuing MBBS Abroad. The average tuition fee for MBBS in India ranges from INR 20 Lakhs to more than INR 1 Cr. Whereas the tuition fees for MBBS Abroad can cost the Indian students from INR 50 Lakhs to around INR 60 Lakhs. Therefore, studying MBBS Abroad at the Top Medical Universities is more feasible for Indian Students when it comes to expenses. 

2. Education

Both Medical Universities in India and Abroad offer distinct curricular structures and teaching styles. The medical universities focus on providing a practical learning experience to improve the students’ knowledge and skills. However, Medical Universities abroad provide chances like international exposure and more.

3. Eligibility Criteria

Entry to the medical universities in India is done on the basis of marks and ranking scored in NEET. While entry to the medical universities Abroad does require NEET Score, however, students only need to clear the entrance examination, no ranking is required. Further, the students must also fulfill the required minimum eligibility criteria to apply for the MBBS program. 

  • The student must have attained the minimum age of 17 years of age at the time of admission.
  • The student must have completed 12th from CBSE or any recognized board/state board
  • The students must have attained atleast 50% marks in subjects including Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

4. Language

English is the common language in India as well as in many countries Abroad. Indian students seeking to study medicine either in India or Abroad will not find any language barrier. However, learning both local as well as English language can provide a lot of scope and career growth to the students. 

5. Recognition

Foreign Medical Universities offer MBBS Degree that are highly recognized by various Medical Councils of the World. Many medical universities are approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC). The recognitions from these medical councils allow Indian students to practice medicine in any country of the world.

It is clearly and precisely understood that though many Indian Students prefer to study MBBS in India, the limited number of seats at the government medical universities and the exorbitant fees charged by the private medical universities left Indian medical aspirants with no choice but to choose to study medicine abroad.

On analysing the mentioned points, it can be concluded that studying MBBS Abroad for Indian students is more preferable. The course pattern and quality of education are similar in India and some of the countries Abroad. Medical students seeking a good education can opt for MBBS Abroad at an affordable cost.
