Challenges the students face with MBBS in Russia

    FMGE/NExT Coaching-

Students studying MBBS abroad have to qualify the medical licensing exam, FMGE to practice or even study further on their return to India. Many medical universities in Russia provide FMGE coaching as well. As a result, universities like Perm State Medical University possess the record of 100% FMGE pass out.

From 2023, FMGE would be replaced by the National Exit Test (NExT), which would be compulsory for all the medical graduates of the country as well as abroad. Russian medical universities have started preparing their current students for it.

    Language Hurdle-

Certainly, the students seeking MBBS abroad anywhere in the world may find it difficult to adjust to new cultural and language practices. Russia being no different.Though English is the language in the classroom, students have to communicate with the locals at some point during their stay, if not, then during the clinical rotation. Therefore it is inevitable that the students can outrightly avoid the language. Hence, some students who are not big enthusiasts of learning a new language may find it difficult to adjust and communicate the new language.

    Climate-

Another concern is the climatic and weather conditions of the country. A major part of the country faces harsh and cold weather conditions. Though the lower regions share weather conditions similar to that of the winters of the Northern Region of India and hence are more livable. Though almost all the university’s campus and hostels have a centralised temperature control system (AC/Heater) as per the weather outside, many students may find it difficult to adjust.  Therefore, when choosing to study in Russia, the students must avoid the extreme regions like that of Siberia or Yashkul and opt for the region with more moderate conditions like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Perm Orenburg, Mari, Sochi, Nizhiny Novogorod, etc.
