On December 26th, 2023, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a notice addressing pending Eligibility Certificate applications. Students with pending applications requiring rectification are given a 10-day deadline to address the deficiencies.
The NMC notification highlights the ongoing scrutiny of eligibility certificate applications, particularly Annexure-I, currently pending with applicants. The NMC's Examination and Medical Review Board (EMRB) meticulously reviewed submissions, identifying deficiencies in the applications.
Stressing Section 13(4B) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, the NMC emphasized the necessity for Indian medical students studying abroad to obtain an Eligibility Certificate. Failure to do so may render them ineligible for the FMGE screening test upon completing their medical course to practice medicine in India. Although the need for an eligibility certificate was waived after the NEET-UG 2019 results, making post-June 5, 2019, NEET-UG qualifications equivalent to eligibility certificates, it has been noted that applicants in Annexure-I proceeded abroad without obtaining one.
In response, the NMC has granted a 10-day window for Annexure-I applicants to rectify deficiencies or submit their applications through the NMC eligibility portal. Failure to comply within this timeframe will result in the summarily rejection of their applications. The NMC urges prompt rectification of deficiencies to ensure a smooth application process for all concerned applicants.
